Negaunee Lions Club Pump & Run

If you’ve ever heard the phrase ‘pump and run’, there’s a good chance it makes you think of a gas station.
But in Negaunee today, ‘pump and run’ was an athletic competition.
The first–ever Negaunee Lions Club Pump & Run was a fundraiser for the club.
This afternoon, the participants had to bench press as many repetitions as they could.
The weight they each had to move was based on their gender, body weight and age.
Then, tonight, they had to run a five–kilometer race on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.
The race had a staggered start, with each person starting at a point in time based on how many reps they’d lifted.
The Pump & Run brought in 22 competitors and hundreds of dollars for the Negaunee Lions Club.
