Negaunee Man Charged in Camp Shooting

A 29-year-old Negaunee man is free on bond tonight.

He was arrested today for careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death.

The charges stem from an incident early Saturday morning in which a man was shot at a camp in Powell Township.

The shooting victim, 37-year-old Eric Thomas of Marquette, is in stable condition at Marquette General Hospital.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned next Monday in 96th District Court in marquette.

Careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death is a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $2,000 or both.

Several agencies were involved in the investigation, including the Marquette City Police and Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.
