Negaunee Male Chorus rehearses for winter concert

It’s all about the men this weekend as the Negaunee Male Chorus is getting ready for it’s annual Christmas concert that has been going on for more than eight decades.

The group of about 30 males will perform a variety of songs to entertain anyone who is looking for a bit of holiday spirit. The group has been performing since 1930 and this annual event is a Negaunee tradition that’s not to be missed.

Bass vocalist, Gary Penhale said, “It’s fun to sing, I started because of my father but once you get into it, you get addicted and it’s a good time. It’s not just singing it’s people having a good time cracking jokes, it’s an outlet, a way to release some stress in life.”

This is the groups Christmas concert but they do a big spring concert as well. They will perform more than a dozen Christmas favorites this Saturday.

“There is classical Christmas songs and then we have different takes on the classical Christmas songs a couple of silly Christmas songs. We have a variety of everything so everybody should be happy with one song or another,” continued Penhale.

The Negaunee Male Chorus members say they are in need of tenors right now. The Christmas Concert takes place Saturday at 7pm at the Negaunee Auditorium. Tickets are $10.
