Naval Sea Cadet Corps Open House
Teens and tweens looking ahead to a profession might find one through the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
But, whether or not the navy or coast guard is a career choice, the Sea Cadet Corps will build self esteem, character and life long skills.
And the Sea Cadets are in recruiting mode.
The Corps has openings for a limited number of 10-to-17-year-olds.
The crew of the Corps’ Darter Dace Division will hold an open house for prospective cadets at Coast Guard Station Marquette this weekend.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is not a Navy recruitment tool — it’s an outreach program that teaches leadership skills with a seamanship aspect.
Cadet applicants must be crime–free, drug–free and physically fit.
They train at the Coast Guard station one weekend each month.
They also participate in competitions, parades, and color guard presentations throughout the region.
The cadets wear Navy uniforms and can participate in a multitude of advanced training programs, including at–sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard.
Adult volunteers, with or without military experience, are also needed to allow the sea cadet program to grow.
