Munising man missing on Lake Superior has been found

The Munising man reported missing on Lake Superior has been found.

Carl Behrend’s family notified the media this morning, after not hearing from him for six days.    He is attempting to sail around Lake Superior on his 18 foot catamaran. The U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard were searching for him – but could not get a response on marine radios.

He was located just this afternoon.  He had sought shelter from the wind at Willow Bay, Ontario – between Otter Island and Marathon. He will stay there until the weather calms.

He doesn’t have cell service or any other form of communication, but hikers who made contact with him say he and his boat are still in good shape.
