More information has been released about Thursday morning’s accident on Brickyard Road and US-41 in Marquette Township.
Officials from the Michigan State Police say just after 10:30 the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, 82-year old Mary Parkkonen of Negaunee, ran a red light at intersection of Brickyard Road and US-41 and struck another vehicle driven by 52-year old Jennifer Tavernier of Marquette. She was driving northbound on Brickyard and crossing US-41 at the time of the collision.
Both drivers were injured in the accident and Parkonen was found at fault.
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Two people were sent to the hospital after a two-car accident in Marquette Township late Wednesday morning.
The incident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Brickyard Road and US-41. Michigan State Police troopers on scene said the driver of a southbound Chevrolet station wagon ran the red light at the intersection and collided with a Chevrolet SUV. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident. There is no word on their condition at this time.
In addition to the Michigan State Police, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette Township Fire Department, and UP Health System EMS assisted at the scene.
