MTU’s Ritchie named player of the week

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech’s Jillian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) has earned GLIAC North Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the third time in four weeks. The senior posted 22 points in a 63-50 win at Northern Michigan last Thursday (Feb. 26).

Ritchie made 7-of-10 field goals including two 3-pointers and all six of her free throws to help the Huskies earn the season sweep of the Wildcats. The 5-11 forward has averaged 22.3 points over the last three games and owns five 20+ point outings on the season.

Tech has had the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week five times in 2014-15: Danielle Blake on Nov. 24 and Feb. 2 and Ritchie on Feb. 9, Feb. 23 and Mar. 2.

Michigan Tech, which finished the regular season at 24-2 overall and 20-2 in GLIAC play, will open the GLIAC Tournament Wednesday (Mar. 4) as the top seed. The Huskies take on Hillsdale at 5:30 p.m. With a win, Tech would host the GLIAC Final Four on Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 7-8) at the SDC Gym.

All-GLIAC postseason awards will not be announced until a pre-GLIAC Final Four banquet on Friday (Mar. 6).
