The No. 25 Michigan Tech women’s basketball team will play at Northwood Thursday (Jan. 26) and Hillsdale Saturday (Jan. 28).
The Series
Michigan Tech is 43-15 all-time against Northwood. The Huskies have dominated the series lately against the Timberwolves winning 41 of the last 43 meetings between the two teams.
Michigan Tech is 35-18 all-time against Hillsdale.
Coach Cameron
Head coach Kim Cameron enters her second season as head coach of the Huskies. She has a 43-7 record and led the team to an NCAA Div. II National Runner-Up finish in 2011. Prior to being named head coach she served as assistant coach for five seasons and was a four-time letterwinner for the Huskies.
Hoyt Heats Up
Junior Sam Hoyt led the team in scoring for the fourth straight game after scoring 18 points against Ferris State. The Arkansaw, Wis., native ranks in the top-10 in the league in three stat categories, fifth in 3-pointers made (2.5 pg), seventh in scoring (15.3 ppg) and ninth in steals (2.0 pg).
Defense
Michigan Tech leads the GLIAC in scoring defense allowing just 54.4 points per game. The Huskies are 10-2 this season when it holds its opponents under 70 points.
Shooting Matters
Michigan Tech ranks fourth in the league in both field goal percentage (.413) and 3-point field goal percentage (.370). The Huskies are 11-0 this season when it shoots better than its opponent.
Grabbing Rebounds
Tech ranks fourth in rebounding defense and is 10-0 this season when it out-rebounds its opponents.
Same Lineup
Four players (Sam Hoyt, Lynn Giesler, Lindsey Lindstrom and Krista Kasuboski) have started all 16 games this season. Emma Veach started the first 12 games before suffering an injury. Jillian Ritchie has started the last four games for the Huskies.
Control the Ball
Tech is one of two teams (Tiffin) to have two players in the top-10 in the league in assist-to-turnover ration. Emma Veach ranks first (2.3) and Lindsay Lindstom ranks ninth (1.4).
Home Streak Ends
Michigan Tech’s 37-game home winning streak came to an end after falling to Ferris State 68-65 Jan. 19.
Last Time Out
Senior Lynn Giesler and junior Sam Hoyt each scored 18 points in a 69-48 home win over Grand Valley State.
