In the Copper Country volunteers from Michigan Tech stopped by local schools to spread of the message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Forty students from the Center for Diversity and Inclusion visited Houghton Elementary and Barkell Elementary to talk about Dr. King’s life. The volunteers felt the younger the kids are, the longer they’ll hold onto the meaning of his message.

“I think it was just an idea that here’s MLK Day. It’s a day of service. What can we do to serve our community, which is the whole theme behind MLK Day. It’s not a day of…but a day of service so this is one way that students themselves can give back to the community,” Nethaniah Dorh from the MTU Center for Diversity and Inclusion said.

The CDI also held a special banquet in the evening at the Memorial Union Ballroom.

Immediately afterward, the Cooperative Campus Ministry hosted an interfaith worship service with students who shared insights about their faith as it relates to Dr. King and peace.
