MTU debuts video scoreboard
This hockey season, fans at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena will see the Michigan Tech Huskies in a whole new way.
The University has introduced a new 8,000 lbs video scoreboard high above center ice.
“Video boards today are really enhancing the game experience for all of your fans—your student athletes that are playing the game, as well as the entire crowd. It allows a lot more interaction, a lot more relationship building, and it really entertains the fans when the game is not going on,” said Suzanne Sanregret, the Athletic Director at Michigan Tech.
The arena will use the scoreboard to show replays and highlights, as well as fun fan interaction like Smiles of the Game or a Kiss Cam.
The cost of putting in the scoreboard was about $865,000, which was all raised through fundraising from outside the university.
The addition of the new video scoreboard puts Husky hockey in a higher league.
“In today’s Division I college hockey, many, many institutions have video boards and it becomes a recruiting piece that helps us to attract more student athletes and it creates an environment that is more on the Division I level,” Sanregret explained.
