Missing Teal Lake swimmer: “I was swimming and apparently took too long”

A Teal Lake swimmer who was reported missing after dark for nearly two hours Monday night has been found alive.

Rescue boats and divers were called in through Marquette County Central Dispatch just after 11:30 p.m. The crew located the missing man some thirty minutes later near the shoreline that borders U.S. 41. The unnamed man was reported as uninjured, wearing only swimming trunks.

Eyewitnesses say when the man, who appeared to be in his early 30’s, was asked by a rescue official about what had happened he replied, “I was swimming and apparently took too long.”

Among the agencies responding were the Negaunee Police Department, the Negaunee Fire Department, Bell Hospital EMS paramedics, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division and Divers, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team.
