Missing Keweenaw County Hikers Found

Two downstate hikers who were missing in the Keweenaw for 3 days have been found and are in good condition.

26–year–old Elizabeth Hunter of Holly and 22–year–old James Murphy of Fenton were found this afternoon in a wooded area on the west side of Copper Lake.

They were reported missing yesterday.

The pair had planned a 3–day hike from High Rock Point, in northeast Keweenaw county, to Smith’s Fishery.

According to the county sheriff’s department, it had been several days since the two had contacted any family members.

Superior Search and Rescue, the Civil Air Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard with helicopter support helped in the search.
