Mikulich Indicted on Bomb Charges

A Kingsford man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that he plotted to blow up a downstate federal building.

42-year-old Gary Mikulich faces up to 30 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.

He was indicted on three counts related to a homemade bomb found outside the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit in February.

Mikulich was arrested last month after authorities linked him to a suspicious tool bag.

Authorities were able to trace the bag to the Iron Mountain Home Depot store, and to Mikulich specifically, through security cameras.

A criminal complaint said an FBI employee found the bag abandoned outside the building and turned it over to the building’s security officers.

Security officers kept the package for three weeks, the complaint said.

It wasn’t until March 18th that a security officer ran the bag through an X–ray machine and discovered that it contained suspicious materials.
