Michigan's Job Market Improving

It’s happening slowly, but Michigan may be steering its way out of some rough economic water.

The state has been adding jobs for seven months in a row.

And there are nearly 60,000 more payroll jobs in Michigan now, than there were a year ago.

That’s according to the Michigan Department of Technology, management and budget.

The head of the U.P. construction council says the construction business is much stronger locally today than it was two or three years ago.

But Michigan certainly doesn’t have as many available jobs as many of us would like.

The jobs picture is not very rosy for younger workers, either in Michigan or nationally.

Michigan’s seasonally–adjusted unemployment rate for April was 8.3%.

The national rate was 8.1%.
