Michigan Tech’s tuition will increase by 2% this fall

Michigan Tech’s Board of Control held its traditional pre-graduation meeting on Friday, and a spike in tuition was a hot topic.

This upcoming fall semester, there will be a 2% increase in tuition and along with that, the university will see about a $2.5 million increase in its state appropriations. MTU associate vice president for enrollment, marketing and communications John Lehman said there’s some good news to come out of those numbers.

“The university has decided to take about $3 million and turn that back into scholarships for students,” he said. “So, while tuition is going up, we do recognize that students have financial needs and we’re trying to meet those the best we can through increased scholarship dollars.”

The board also approved two new degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and a Master of Science in Data Science. A new treasurer was also named. Julie Seppala will take over for the retiring Dan Greenlee effective July 1st.
