Michigan Tech Winter Carnival

Many eyes are on Houghton this weekend for the Winter Carnival at Michigan Tech.

Today’s events started up with snow volleyball, tug-of-war and the Yooper Sprint snowshoe race in the morning.

And no one seemed to mind the below-freezing temperatures.

The ice sculptures built earlier in the week are grabbing most of the attention from onlookers.

But most students seemed more involved with all of today’s other activities.

Downhill skiing and snowboarding rounded out the day’s outdoor events.

Tomorrow night will cap off the 2009 Winter Carnival with an awards ceremony, torchlight parade, fireworks and the Snowball Dance.
