Michigan AG Visits U.P.

Michigan’s top law enforcement official is visiting the Upper Peninsula.

The state Attorney General is talking with Marquette General during the trip about its pending sale.

Bill Schuette visited Marquette’s Presque Isle Pavilion tonight for a barbecue dinner fundraiser.

He spent the earlier portion of the day looking into Duke LifePoint’s plan to buy Marquette General, turning it from a nonprofit hospital into a for–profit entity.

Schuette says that he’ll hold a public hearing about it sometime in June and that he’ll conduct an extensive investigation process about the sale.

Schuette was also speaking with residents about V–O–4, or Violent Offense, Fourth Instance.

If someone with three felony convictions commits a fourth offense of a violent nature, Schuette believes that should merit at least 25 years behind bars.

Schuette has also visited Iron Mountain and Ironwood during his U.P. swing.
