MI State Police report Craigslist scam

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say a scam is taking place involving job postings on Craigslist, a popular website for classified ads.

Police say a nearby resident saw a job posting on Craigslist recently and contacted the company advertising the position. The person was hired without an interview, a background check or even an application. The resident was then asked to provide bank account numbers and other financial information. When the resident questioned the need for that information, the purported company representative became angry and hung up the telephone.

Police are using the scam as a reminder to not provide bank account or other financial information to anyone you don’t know. Legitimate job applications don’t ask for any financial information from the applicant.
