MGH Settles Medical Negligence Lawsuit
A large legal settlement has been reached between Marquette General Hospital and the family of a patient.
The settlement was reached two weeks into an open trial in Marquette County Circuit Court which Judge Thomas Solka was hearing.
The settlement comes from a lawsuit filed against MGH and four of its physicians.
The widow of the patient will receive $1.55 million.
Attorneys for the family say Dr. Robert Hill, a dentist from Manistique, was golfing in Escanaba in August 2005 when he fainted.
He was rushed to OSF St. Francis Hosptial in Escanaba.
Doctors diagnosed Hill with a vascular tear in the iliac artery.
He was then rushed to MGH for advanced treatment and surgery.
Attorneys say physicians at MGH failed to act upon the diagnosis from OSF St. Francis, deciding not to perform surgery when Dr. Hill needed it, and they say Hill died as a result of that decision.
ABC 10 News Now contacted Marquette General for a statement on the case.
A spokesman for the hospital verified that a settlement was reached in the case but did not comment further than that.
