MGH: exploring partnership options
Marquette General Hospital officials say they are exploring partnership options in an effort to improve the quality of health care in the U.P. Tonight on ABC 10 News Now at 5:30 p.m., get details of what the partnership exploration could mean to local healthcare options and to the 2,600 MGH employees.
MGH officials addressed the partnership initiative in a statement from Brad Cory, Marquette General Health System Board Chair, and Gary Muller, President and CEO of Marquette General Health System, saying the facility will continue to focus on providing top notch health care with constantly evolving state-of-the-art technology and retaining a strong workforce. But, in doing so, outside assistance is being considered, in the form of a partnership with a larger medical system.

The Marquette General Health System Board of Directors, with the advice of physician leaders and management of Marquette General, continues to explore partnership opportunities with health care organizations beyond the Upper Peninsula.
Our goal is, as always, to improve the quality of health care in the Upper Peninsula, strengthen Marquette General financially and expand our role in the community. The hospital will be here, creating jobs and caring for and serving our community for generations to come.
As we explore options and opportunities we will make sure that Marquette General is the place that you trust for health care in the Upper Peninsula. The hospital will continue to operate the Level II Trauma Center, a leading oncology center with its recently acquired Linear Accelerator and CT Simulator, and the only neo-natal intensive care center in the region. And Marquette General will continue to be one of the top heart hospitals in the country.
We will explore partnership opportunities that allow Marquette General to expand services and practice areas to better serve patients throughout the Upper Peninsula, including construction of a new, state-of-the-art outpatient surgical center and a recovery center for inpatient and outpatient surgery. This would also allow us to better protect current jobs and create more opportunities going forward.
A partnership can also create new opportunities for doctors, nurses and health care professionals in the U.P. through the creation of new centers of excellence at Marquette General, new and expanded service lines, and mentoring and training programs for our staff to improve the patient experience.
We will continue to reach out and listen to the Marquette General community as we explore partnership opportunities. We want to be a better health system, a better neighbor and a more deeply involved member of the Upper Peninsula community. Updates on the process and development of the partnerships will be provided as new information is available over the next couple of months.
