Meth investigation results in two arrests

SAULT STE. MARIE — Two people are in jail after an investigation into the manufacture of meth in Sault Ste. Marie.

Tri-County Drug Enforcement Taskforce officials say several hours of surveillance resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Matthew Eric Durden of Marquette and 18-year-old Brianna Lynn Hart of Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday evening. Detectives began their investigation after receiving information about the pair manufacturing meth within the city.

Durden is charged with nine drug counts, including four felony counts of maintaining a meth lab. Hart is charged with three counts, including conspiracy to maintain a meth lab. Both suspects were arraigned in Chippewa County District Court on Thursday.

Police say these arrests are unrelated to other recent Tri-Dent meth busts. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department assisted Tri-Dent in apprehending the suspects.
