A major fire Thursday is under investigation in Menominee County. It was reported at about 4:58 pm at Superior Cedar Products Inc. in Carney. The 21,000 square foot building involved was quickly engulfed as a southwest wind pushed flames throughout the building.
More than 100 firefighters and 16 fire trucks from Nadeau Township, Gourley Township and Spalding Township fire departments responded. Mid-County Rescue Squad and WE Energies were also on scene. There was no loss of life and no injuries reported.
Firefighters remained on scene throughout the night. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is still under investigation.
Approximately 40 employees will be affected.
Approximately 1 hour after the call was received in Carney, another fire was reported in Faithorn Township. Numerous firefighters and equipment responded. The residential structure was a total loss. There were no loss of life and no injuries reported.
