Menominee Co. student brings knife to school

A seventh grade student at a Menominee County school was taken into custody for possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.  According to the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, it happened Wednesday at the Carney-Nadeau School

At 8:33 a.m., Sergeant Brian Helfert, school resource officer/juvenile crime investigator for the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department, received a call from the school that a student reportedly had brought a knife to school and had told some students that he was going to kill another student.

Staff members located the student and secured him in an office.

The knife, a butcher knife with a blade measuring nearly eight inches, had been located by staff members and was locked in another office thus putting the students out of danger.

Sheriff Kenny Marks gives credit to the students who reported the incident and to staff members for their efforts in locating and securing both the student and the knife.

The case will be forwarded to the Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
