Memorial Day service held in Ishpeming

Memorial Day was once known as Decoration Day.  It started as a way to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died fighting the Civil War. Now it is a national day of recognition for fallen soldiers from wars in our nation’s past.

The city of Ishpeming held its’ annual Memorial Day ceremony this morning at the Ishpeming cemetery. Dozens of family, friends, and veterans came to pay their respects and honor the men and women who have fallen and those who are still fighting.

This was just one of many ceremonies held throughout the U.P. Monday. The nation as a whole paid tribute to all of it’s fallen soldiers with at 3 p.m. with the national moment of remembrance.
