Meeting Ishpeming’s new city manager

Ishpeming’s new city manager says the city is poised for progress.

The Greater Ishpeming Negaunee Chamber of Commerce held an open house Thursday to welcome the new city manager.

There was interest from the business community and local residents in what he has in mind.

“We are working on a facade grant, it was just approved by the council,” City Manager Mark Slown said.  “To help improve the fronts and sides of buildings, we are going to try and make the town look as good as possible and that will help us to be more attractive to a broader range of people.”

“Basically, I thought the community had a great prospect for growth and that I could use my skills and talents to help.  So it seemed like a good fit for me.”

Slown says revitalizing downtown is a top priority.

He comes from a military background.  He served in the United States Air Force and has twelve years of city management experience.
