MDOT replacing highway signs

MDOT says that by 2030, 1 in 5 Michigan drivers will be 65 years of age or older. The agency also says a 65-year-old driver needs 8 times as much light to be able to see as a 25-year-old does.

MDOT is trying to get ahead of the curve by replacing old highways signs all over the state with more highly reflective versions. The U.S. Department of Transportation pays for the sign replacement program.

Newer, brighter highway signs help all drivers, not only older ones. MDOT says only about 25% of all driving is done at night, but half of all traffic fatalities take place in the dark.
