ISHPEMING — The snow is melting, which means it’s almost time for construction season.
The Michigan Department of Transportation just released its 2016 Paving The Way Road Repair Projects map, which gives travelers a look at the larger road repair projects on trunk lines across the state. Distribution of the map is going to be a little different this year.
“It’s been available in digital and print versions, but this year, in an attempt to be more environmentally responsible and use less paper — and also save some money for the taxpayers of the state — we are providing it only in digital form,” said MDOT Communications Representative Dan Weingarten.
For the Upper Peninsula, this year’s big projects will include the roundabout on US–41 in Ishpeming, and reconstruction of US–41 through Hancock. Those looking for up-to-the-minute info on road maintenance can check out MDOT’s Mi Drive website and mobile app.
“Check it out before you take off on your trip, and find out whether there’s going to be any kind of closure or work on the road,” Weingarten added.
Officials want to remind drivers to slow down in construction zones and be aware of workers and traffic controls to help keep everyone safe this season.
