MDOT hosts third annual blood drive

Residents from Marquette County and beyond had the opportunity to give blood and save a life today.

The Michigan Department of Transportation in Ishpeming hosted its third annual blood drive. Country wide drives like these help alleviate the constant need for blood.

“This is a great way for us to help out the community,” Harmony Michaud, who organized the drive, said. “You never know when your family, friends, everybody might need some help and need blood. We’re always in need; it’s a critical need, and this is a great way for us to help out.”

Some blood drives disperse the donated blood to communities around the country, but that’s not the case today.

Michaud said, “Even if we only have 10 people sign up, it’s 10 pints of blood, and it goes toward family and friends that need it; it stays in the community.”

The blood mobile set up at MDOT’s transportation service center in Ishpeming Township from noon to 2 p.m.
