May is Military Appreciation Month

For over a decade, the month of May has been dubbed Military Appreciation Month.

The month long celebration gives communities a chance to show their thanks and support to the troops.  In U.P. communities there is not a day that goes by where troops do not feel appreciated, no matter the month.

“Military recognition month is a great opportunity for the community to show their support for the soldiers and their families in the area, and they do a great job all year round.  You can’t go anywhere without having someone patting us on the back or thank us for what we’re doing,” Major Mark McNeil said, who a member of the National Guard.  “I think it’s important to recognize the families for what they do to support the soldiers and the mission that we do.”

Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999.
