NEWBERRY — A husband and wife from McMillan are in jail after an embezzlement investigation at a Newberry business.
Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post say 67-year-old Thomas Gendron and 42-year-old Michelle Gendron were arrested Tuesday after an investigation involving money that was allegedly taken from Pickelman’s Petro. Both suspects were charged with conspiracy to commit embezzlement of $100,000 or more. Additionally, Michelle received a charge of embezzlement of $100,000 or more.
Police say Michelle Gendron was employed at Pickelman’s Petro, and the investigation looked into financial transactions that took place between 2011 and October of 2015.
The two were arraigned Tuesday in Luce County District Court. Michelle Gendron is housed at the Chippew County Jail on a $250,000 bond, while her husband is lodged in Alger County on a $150,000 bond. Both are scheduled for preliminary exams on January 25th. The investigation into the matter continues.
