Marquette Township Catches the Christmas Spirit
Christmas is still a few weeks away, but holiday decorations are already springing up to help ring in the season.
Marquette Township put up its flagship fir earlier today in preparation for the 3rd Annual Catch the Christmas Spirit tree-lighting ceremony.
The Marquette Redmen Chorale will kick things off at 6 p.m. with a medley of Christmas caroles while Santa makes his way through the crowd to flip the switch, light the tree, and officially begin the holiday season.
But, not everyone will be taking part in the yule tide spirit.
“We’re anticipating a visit from the Grinch again this year. We heard he tried to make a reservation at Applebee’s, even though Applebee’s doesn’t take reservations. We know he’s going to be around causing trouble,” said LeAnne Kachmarsky, Chairperson for the Marquette Township Community Events Committee. “But, we’re ready for him, and so are the kids from the Marquette Redmen Chorale.”
After the Grinch has been dealt with, the festivities continue with a free tractor-pulled hayride featuring live music and entertainment. If you want a chance to warm up, Santa will be inside the mall visiting with all the good boys and girls. You can take your own pictures or enlist the services of a professional photographer, during their one night only half-off special.
“These events are really special because when you see how excited the kids get, and you’re walking through the crowd and you hear a parent or a grandparent say that ‘It was a Kodak moment’ or ‘This was priceless,’ it just makes your volunteer work all worthwhile,” Kachmarsky added.
