MARQUETTE — A section of Washington Street in Marquette will be getting an overhaul starting Monday.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority announced that the 200 block of West Washington Street will be the recipient of infrastructure repairs and improvements. The curbing and brick pavers will be removed and it will be replaced by stamped concrete.

The thoroughfare will even have some greenery added with the addition of trees. Vehicles will be able to pass through the area throughout the project, and the DDA adds that pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained as best as possible.

While parking on the street will be prohibited, the Marquette Commons Parking Lot will remain available.

The project will start on the south side and shift to the north side during the third week of May. The whole makeover is expected to be done by the beginning of June.
