Marquette Shopko Gas Station Dismantled

It’s been almost six months since the Marquette Shopko store stopped selling gas.

The gas station closed in November after nearly 40 years in business.

Monday, crews were at the West Washington Street location removing all evidence that a gas station had ever been there.

They removed the gas pumps and excavated the area near the old station.

A Shopko store employee told ABC 10 last fall that the closure of the gas station had to do with problems with its underground fuel tanks.

The employee said that, to the company, it was more cost-effective to close the station than to repair the tanks.

The change didn’t mean any job losses at Shopko, though — the former gas station employees were offered positions inside the store.
