Marquette Fire Hydrant Testing

Firefighters are only as good as their tools, and the Marquette Fire Department has been spending some time making sure some of its biggest tools are working properly.

The fire department has been testing hydrants on the east side of the city.

the test is to ensure that in the case of a fire, the fire department will have the proper water pressure needed to extinguish the blaze.

Capt. Geoff Weston says that if you come across a hydrant test, use caution if you’re driving and wait for the test to finish.

He says you may notice slightly discolored water for a short time; this isn’t unusual and Capt. Weston says to just run the tap, the tub or the shower until the discoloration passes.
