Marquette County Board Gives Money to Defend Tax Appeal

The Marquette County Board of Commissioners has agreed to make a one time contribution to the city of Negaunee and Chocolay Township to defend a tax appeal.

The two municipalities jointly petitioned the board tonight asking for financial assistance in defending a tax appeal before the Michigan State Tax Tribunal.

The hearings will take place in Lansing where costs are higher than if before a local board.

The committee passed a motion to provide each jurisdiction with $1,000 dollars.

The next step in the process will be completion of an appraisal.

In other action items the board also decided to add commissioner Mike Quayle to the contract negotiating team.
