Marquette Co. Candidate Forum is tomorrow night

The Upper Peninsula Children’s Coalition in partnership with the Marquette Branch of the American Association of University Women will once again host a candidate forum in preparation for the election on November 6.

“The Candidate Forum will be an opportunity for the candidates from across the U.P. to respond to questions about issues that affect children and families in the Upper Peninsula,” said Karlyn Rapport, Public Policy Representative with the AAUW.

“We want people in our community to be more familiar with the people who represent them,” said Margaret Olesnavage, UPCC Chair. “We’d also like to make sure that candidates and the public alike are familiar with the issues that affect children and families in the U.P.”

The forum will take place Thursday evening, October 18, in Marquette at the Peter White Public Library Community Room beginning at 7:00 p.m. 

 The invited candidates are:

Questions were submitted by individuals and agency representatives who are members of UPCC, AAUW is a member.  The format of the event: each candidate will make an opening statement of 2 minutes then draw a question from a hat and answer it in 2 minutes.  Their opponent will answer the same question. The opponent will pick a question, answer it first and then the first candidate will answer this question.  The next pair of candidates will answer different questions. Candidates will then give a 2 minute closing statement.
