Marquette Co. Board changes meeting times

The Marquette County Board of Commissioners met for the first time in the 2013 calendar year Tuesday night.

The Commission down three members, to a total of six commissioners due to the recent election.  Gregory Seppanen is the lone new commissioner on the board.  Gerald Corkin was elected the new chairperson of the board, while former chairwoman Debborah Pellow was elected to the vice chairwoman position.

During the meeting, the commission decided to change it’s meeting schedules for the next three months.  Instead of meeting once a week, they are going to try a bi-weekly meeting schedule.  They will meet next Tuesday, January 15th, but for February and March, they will meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

The board also addressed the County Road 595 project.  Pellow said that the western part of Marquette County could have used the project, since the project was expected to cost $80 million and there will be a loss of 400 jobs over the next few years.  She called the loss of the road “unfortunate to the western end of Marquette County”.
