Marquette area Distinguished Service Winners announced

The Lake Superior Community Partnership has announced the recipients of the 2013 Distinguished Service Awards, sponsored by the Marquette County Ambassadors.   Cliffs Natural Resources was selected in the business category and Chuck Bergdahl as the individual award recipient.  The awards will be presented in front of nearly 300 community members attending the Lake Superior Community Partnership’s Annual Dinner Celebration on Friday, March 8, held in Northern Michigan University’s Great Lakes Rooms.

“Each year, one of the highlights of our Annual Dinner has been the opportunity it presents to recognize companies and individuals who make significant contributions to our community and to the Lake Superior Community Partnership,” commented Dennis Smith, LSCP Chairman. “This year is no exception and I am very pleased with the selection committee’s choice for these prestigious awards.  I have had the pleasure of working with both recipients over the last several years and believe they are well deserving of the recognition.”

Criteria used in the award selection process include:

·         Makes a strong contribution to the betterment of Marquette County through the use of time, talent and/or treasure

·         Helps the Lake Superior Community Partnership reach its community and economic development goals

·         Demonstrates leadership within the community

“Chuck has devoted so much of his time to the LSCP and the Marquette County community; it is wonderful to see his efforts recognized with the LSCP Distinguished Service Award,” says Lois Ellis, LSCP V.P. of Economic Development.  “Chuck’s participation and leadership on the committees of the LSCP, the Economic Development Corporation and the LSCP Foundation has impacted the business community and the workforce in so many positive ways.”

“We are very excited to honor such a long standing partner in our community,” says Amy Clickner, LSCP CEO.  “For generations, Cliffs Natural Resources has been a critical part of our economic base, woven in to the fabric of our heritage and culture for over 160 years.  As a community and an organization to be able to say ‘thank you’ for your investment and for being an outstanding corporate citizen is great.”
