Marinette Student Gunman Dead

But the top story across the nation today is likely the hostage situation at Marinette High School, right across the Wisconsin state line from Menominee.

The student who’s said to be responsible has died.

Police have identified him as Samuel Hengel of Porterfield, Wisconsin, a 15-year-old sophomore at the high school.

He died shortly before 11 Central time this morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hengel was carrying two handguns, and he turned one of them on himself at about 8 Central time last night as police broke into the classroom he was in.

Hengel took 24 students and one teacher hostage, but all the hostages got out unharmed after a 5-hour standoff.
