Mardi Gras Madness in Munising
Mardi Gras Madness was a big hit in Munising over the weekend.
The music was just part of the night Saturday – at the first ever event of its kind to benefit the Alger Regional Community Foundation.
Mardi Gras Madness featured all the decorative trappings of a New Orleans event: with the theme of green, gold and purple, masks and a Bourbon Street flair. The evening featured a silent auction with autographed footballs from both the Packers and the Lions and a raffle featuring a script donated by Florence Henderson.
A number of Alger County organizations will benefit from the proceeds. In 2012, the Alger Community Foundation
distributed $86,000 to about two dozen groups ranging from Alger Parks and Rec, the Munising Senior Center and the Alger County Sheriff’s Department.
The organization has provided grants for digital mammography equipment, hoop house projects and to local schools for sports programs.
The Mardi Gras night is one of only three annual fund-raising events for the agency. The foundation’s next event is a golf tournament in June.
