March snowmobile season outlook

At this time last year, many of us were expecting to see late-winter snow, only to be surprised by unusually warm temperatures.

That warm weather melted away a large portion of the snowmobile season, but that’s not the case this year.

Mother Nature has helped extend the sledding season in Marquette County with colder temperatures and more snow.

In seasons past, especially last year, the lack of snow meant fewer riders.

Fewer riders meant less revenue for the area, but Pat Black of the Marquette Country Convention and Visitors Bureau says the longer season this year is helping to pull revenue into the local economy.

Black says March is typically one of the slower months for tourism in the area, but she expects the extended snowmobile season will make this one of the best months of March the tourism industry has seen in recent memory.
