MAPS discusses realigning classes

Major changes may be in store for the Marquette Area Public Schools as the School Board tries to balance enrollment and budget issues.

Continued declining enrollment and the failure of a bond issue last fall has led the district to consider a major realignment of the buildings.

The consideration on the table: having kindergarten through third grades at Cherry Creek, Sandy Knoll and Superior Hills. 4th, 5th and 6th grades would be at Bothwell. 7-12 grades would be housed at the Marquette Senior High School, with 7th and 8th graders in the “pod”, separated from the older students.

High school offices would move to what is currently the district’s central office.

Central office would move to Graveraet, as would 10-12 alternative high school classes and high school functional skills classes.
