UPDATE: Name of deceased man released

UPDATE — 1:40 p.m. September 18, 2015 (EDT)

The Marquette City Police have identified the man whose body was discovered Thursday afternoon on Presque Isle as 33-year-old Nicholas Straka of Marquette. Police say no foul play is suspected at this time, but the incident remains under investigation.

The Marquette Police Department has released a few more details about a man’s body that was discovered Thursday afternoon near Black Rocks. Police say that the deceased male is a 33-year-old Marquette resident.

His name is being withheld at this time. Police are still investigating the incident.


MARQUETTE — Marquette City Police are investigating the death of a man found in Lake Superior. The police department and other emergency personnel were on the scene today on Presque Isle Island. Detective Mike Kohler says the man was found near Black Rocks in Lake Superior.

Marquette City Police D/Lt. Michael Kohler says, “Shortly after noon today the Marquette Police was dispatched to Presque Isle Island to a report of a male subject who was laying on the ground at the base of a cliff.”

Upon their arrival police say that they found the man was already deceased. The name and description of the man has not yet been released pending further investigation and contact with family members.

The investigation remains ongoing.
