UPDATE: Man who held woman hostage charged with attempted murder

UPDATE:

The Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney says the suspect involved in the incident in Sault Ste. Marie, 29-year-old Scott Daniel Brown of Sault Ste. Marie, has been charged with attempted murder.

Brown remains hospitalized as a result of the gunshot wound. He is expected to recover. The female victim in the incident was treated for knife wounds and has been released from the hospital.

The Prosecuting Attorney says Brown is in the custody of the Michigan State Police, the agency which is conducting the investigation into the incident.

Brown’s arraignment has not been scheduled, and the investigation is still ongoing. The Prosecuting Attorney says that as is procedure, the officer who shot Brown has been placed on administrative leave pending completion of the investigation.


SAULT STE. MARIE — A man who held a woman hostage and refused police commands was shot by police in Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday afternoon.

According the Michigan State Police, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department responded to a residence on Minneapolis Street shortly before 4:30 p.m after a 911 call.

Officers confronted a man holding a woman hostage on the front porch with a knife to her throat.  The man refused the officers’ commands to drop the knife and continued to threaten the woman.  Police shot the man to protect the woman’s life.

The man fell to the ground, releasing the woman.

The man and woman are currently in the hospital for the treatment of unknown injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and when it is complete it will be turned over to the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
