Man who held woman at knife point receives sentence

SAULT STE MARIE — A Sault Ste. Marie man who was shot by police has been sentenced in Chippewa County Circuit Court.

Scott Brown was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison and a total of $858 in costs and fines. Brown pleaded guilty in July to Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Less than Murder. As part of a plea deal, the original charges of Attempted Murder and Interfering with Electronic Communications were dropped.

Brown was shot by a police officer when he refused to release a woman he was holding at knife-point. That shooting was deemed justified.
