Man who crashed SUV into Ishpeming High School pleads guilty

The man who crashed his vehicle into Ishpeming High School last fall pled guilty in the Ishpeming Branch of Marquette County District Court Tuesday.

In a plea agreement, Joseph Pennala, 29, pled guilty to OWI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, a charge that was reduced from failure to stop at a personal injury accident.  Both charges are misdemeanors.  A third charge, resisting/obstructing a police officer was dropped.

Police say Pennala’s SUV hit the north side of Ishpeming High School October 12.

When they arrived on scene the vehicle was stuck inside the wall, and Pennala had fled the scene.

He will be sentenced May 27.
