Man sent to prison for possessing stolen firearm
A Menominee County man has been sentenced to federal prison for possession of a stolen firearm.
U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Miles, Jr. said Marco Antonio Arteaga, 20, of Wilson, will spend 24 months in prison. In addition to his prison term, Arteaga was ordered to serve three years of supervised release, and to pay a $100 special assessment. He pled guilty to the charge back in October of 2012.
The investigation into Arteaga’s activities stemmed from an unrelated assault in which a 12 year-old child had a gun pointed at his head. It was found that the gun used in that incident, and other guns, had been stolen from a residence on the Hannahville Reservation. One gun was found underneath a mattress in Arteaga’s home. He admitted to concealing two of the firearms that had been stolen.
The Hannahville Indian Community Tribal Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, and the Menominee County Sheriff Department investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner prosecuted the case.
