MARQUETTE — Warm temperatures mean thin ice, and one man found that out the hard way Tuesday.

The man was ice sailing on Lake Superior in Marquette around one this afternoon when he fell through the ice. The heavy blades of his ice sail combined with the high temperatures caused him to be fully submerged underwater.

Fortunately, some nearby fishermen saw him and were able to pull him to safety. The Marquette Police and Fire Departments as well as EMT’s arrived shortly after the man was rescued.

We here at ABC10 would just like to remind everyone that ice on the lake may not be safe to walk on and to use caution while you enjoy the warm weather.
