Man found guilty in Keweenaw Co.

A Calumet man charged with the death of a passenger when he crashed his car has been found guilty on two of three counts.

David Paul Simons, 39, was accused of leaving the scene of an accident that caused the death of Jeffrey Brusso, 53, of Allouez Township in November 2011.

Simons was found guilty on the charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and driving with a suspended license during an accident causing death.  Both are felonies and are punishable by 15 years in prison.

Police said Simons was drinking at the time of the accident, but a blood alcohol test was not taken until hours later.  After the accident, Simons fled the scene.  He was later arrested at his mother’s home.
