UPDATE: Name of man who died in snowmobile accident released

UPDATE — 9:30 a.m. March 4th, 2016 (EST)

The name of the man who died in a snowmobile accident in Negaunee Township Thursday morning has been released.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Chad M. Plasters of Milan, MI, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The incident remains under investigation, but alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Sheriff’s Office Special Operations, Marquette City Police, Michigan State Police, Negaunee Township Fire and EMS, and UP Health System EMS.


NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — A downstate man is dead after a snowmobile accident Thursday morning in Negaunee Township.

Just after 9:30 a.m., a group of six snowmobilers were traveling west on Trail No. 14, just west of Kalkaska Drive. The last snowmobiler in the group, a 43-year-old man from Milan, MI, failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and hit a guardrail post and sign.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident.
